Harry Melling made a mark with his portrayal of Dudley Dursley in the Harry Potter series, bringing a mix of comically spoiled brat and underlying menace to the overindulged cousin of the Boy Who Lived. Beyond the wizarding world, Melling’s work in the TV drama Openings showcases a shift toward darker, more complex roles that highlight his capacity to convey simmering tension without excessive dialogue. His collaborations with directors who favor character-driven stories, along with a recent turn in indie hits like The Devil All the Time, have helped him shed the child actor image. Melling’s ability to inhabit largely unlikable or troubled characters with authenticity makes him an intriguing presence, especially on screen when the narrative leans into psychological unease. Watching him in Openings offers a striking example of how he crafts intensity through subtlety rather than spectacle.
